We are one of the most spiritually overfed and undernourished generations in history.
We have more access to information than any generation before us. It is at our fingertips. Yet we scroll endlessly through sermons, clips, reels, podcasts, debates, devotionals, teachings, and “Christian content,” wondering why many believers are anxious, exhausted, distracted, prayer-less, and spiritually weak.
“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled” (Matthew 5:6).
We snack all day but rarely sit down for an actual meal with God.
We listen to people talk about Scripture more than we open Scripture. We consume worship music while barely worshiping. We fill every quiet moment with noise and wonder why we no longer recognize His voice clearly.
And I say this with conviction in my own heart because I know what it feels like to reach for the phone before reaching for the Lord.
The frightening thing about constant consumption is that it creates a comforting illusion of nourishment.
You can know Christian language and still be spiritually dry. You can re-post truth while neglecting truth. You can be surrounded by bread and still slowly starve.
Jesus never said, “Blessed are those who consume content.” He said, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4).
Not by endless commentary.
Not by clips.
Not by algorithms.
By His Word.
There is nothing wrong with sermons, podcasts, teachings, or encouragement online. God can absolutely use those things. But none of them can replace cultivating our relationship through personally abiding with Him.
At some point, we must stop merely sampling spiritual things at the scrolling buffet and sit quietly before the Lord long enough to actually eat.
Not rushed.
Not distracted.
Not multitasking.
Not half-listening while scrolling.
Just us and Him.
Because the tragedy is not that the Bread is unavailable.
The tragedy is that many of us no longer know how to be still long enough to hunger for it.
Love ya, and He does too!
