August Scripture Writing Plan: The Names and Titles of God

“God replied to Moses, ‘I AM WHO I AM. Say this to the people of Israel: I AM has sent me to you’” (Exodus 3:14, NLT).

This August Scripture Writing Plan invites you to spend thirty-one days learning the names and titles of God through the words He has spoken in Scripture.

There is a difference between knowing facts about God and knowing who He has revealed Himself to be.

Throughout Scripture, God reveals His character through His names, titles, and the ways He describes Himself. He is Elohim, the Creator. He is El Roi, the God who sees. He is Jehovah Jireh, the Lord who provides, and Jehovah Shalom, the Lord our peace. He is also the Lord God of Heaven’s Armies, sovereign over every power we can see and every power we cannot.

These are not merely interesting Hebrew words to collect. Each name invites us to know God more deeply and to trust Him according to what He has revealed about Himself.

How to use the August Scripture Writing Plan

This month’s Scripture Writing Plan contains thirty-one passages centered on the names and titles of God. Each day includes the Scripture reference, the name or title found in the passage, and its meaning. As you write, pause and consider what that passage reveals about God’s character, authority, faithfulness, and relationship with His people.

Do not rush through the words simply to complete the day. Ask yourself where you need to know God by that truth right now. Do you need to remember that He sees you, provides for you, heals, strengthens, defends, judges righteously, or remains present even when you cannot feel Him?

Keep the plan somewhere you will see it each day. Write the Scripture, write the name and its meaning, and then spend a few quiet moments reflecting on what God is showing you through His Word.

By the end of August, I pray these names will feel like more than familiar phrases. When you are afraid, may you remember the Lord of Heaven’s Armies. When you feel overlooked, may you remember El Roi, the God who sees. When the road ahead feels uncertain, may you remember that Jehovah Shammah, the Lord who is there, has not left you to walk alone.

Write the Word. Sit with it. Let the God who is reveal Himself through what He has spoken.
