But after long abstinence from food, then Paul stood in the midst of them and said, “Men, you should have listened to me, and not have sailed from Crete and incurred this disaster and loss. 22 And now I urge you to take [f]heart, for there will be no loss of life among you, but only of the ship. 23 For there stood by me this night an angel of the God to whom I belong and whom I serve, 24 saying, ‘Do not be afraid, Paul; you must be brought before Caesar; and indeed God has granted you all those who sail with you.’ 25 Therefore take heart, men, for I believe God that it will be just as it was told me. 26 However, we must run aground on a certain island.” (Acts 27:21-26 NKJV)
I’ve read this chapter so many times over the years, but this time these stood out to me in a different way.
God often shows us our destination, but He is not always so revealing on how we will get there. And more often than not, the lessons are not found at our destination, but along the journey.
Paul’s journey to Rome was marked by storms, uncertainty, and difficult decisions. What began with favorable conditions quickly turned into something far more dangerous. The crew found themselves in a place where hope had nearly been lost.
After many days without food, Paul stood among them and spoke. He reminded them that although they had made choices that led to this moment, God had not abandoned them. There would be loss, but not of life. God had already spoken, and Paul believed Him.
They would not reach their destination in the way they expected. In fact, they would have to run aground on an island before getting there. But even in that, God’s plan was still unfolding.
When God calls us toward something, we should not expect the path to be without difficulty. Some obstacles will come from the enemy. Some will come from our own decisions. And some are allowed by God to grow and strengthen us.
But if we continue forward, trusting Him, even when the journey feels uncertain, we can rest in knowing that His word will stand.
What are you walking through right now that may be shaping you for where God is leading you?

Amén, Amén to that. Thats why God speaks to us about the purpose tha she have for us, but never the path that we are gonna walk to get to that purpose. Because we wouldn’t even try to walk it, because it would look impossible to our Human Eyes. But How Great is our lord that on His mercy He still give us strengths to walk by faith and not by sight. God bless you Great devocional
Amen! This is so true. God is so gracious not to show us the whole path at once. There are things I know I would have run from if I had seen them ahead of time. But He is so faithful to meet us in each step and give us exactly what we need to keep going.
Walking by faith really is that daily surrender. Trusting Him even when it doesn’t make sense. Thank you for your kind words, it blessed me. 🙂
Thank you
Mrs. Ramos.
You’re quite welcome, Mr. Ramos. 🙂
